Frequently Asked Questions

The Maine Environmental Education and Outdoor Learning Resource Directory is a dynamic and searchable tool that parents, educators, and community members can use to discover new environmental learning partners and collaborators in their area. Below are some Frequently Asked Questions that will help you as you begin to use this tool. If you have any questions that aren’t addressed in this document, please reach out to us directly by filling out this form on the Teach ME Outside website.

In order to alter or reset search results, you can either click the ‘x’ icon on each individual search result filter shown below the search controls, or you can return to the Online Directory page.

By clicking the “Near Me” button, the directory will return results within 25 miles of your location.  To use this feature, make sure you turn on location services on your computer or device, and must accept your browser’s prompt to share your location with the Teach ME Outside site.

By clicking on the ‘Add a new listing’ button, you will be prompted to create an account, which will give you access to the “Add new listing’ page. If you already have an account, you can sign in using the login tool below the map on the Online Directory page, then click on the ‘Add new listing’ button.

You will be prompted to enter in your organization’s details including a title, description, category, sector, etc. Users will be able to search by the information you provide, so please make sure you are accurately characterizing your organization’s offerings. You can even add a photo and set your organization’s location accurately on a map. Submitted listings will be confirmed as legitimate before posting.

We encourage you to coordinate with others in your organization and designate an organizational representative who will be responsible for maintaining the accuracy of your listing.

You have complete control over your listing! If you need to update it or correct missing information. Simply log in to your account and submit your requested changes. You can sign in using the login panel below the map on this page.

If you would like to “claim” a listing that has already been submitted, simply click the button, “Claim This Location” and follow the prompts to update your contact information. This button will only be visible to the original author of a listing who is currently signed in. If you need to access a listing to which you do not have access, please contact us through the ‘Connect’ header menu link.

Once you have submitted your listing, you will receive an email confirmation and it will go to a Teach ME Outside administrator for approval. Your listing will be approved within a week, and you will receive another confirmation email that it has been approved. If you do not receive a listing approval within a week, please reach out to us by filling out the Connect form on the Teach ME Outside website

This directory’s primary purpose is to support educators, organizations, and communities in Maine. However, if your organization is located in a nearby state (New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts) and you serve Maine schools or communities, we encourage you to submit a listing. If you would like guidance on how to start up a resource directory in your own state, please reach out to Teach ME Outside by using the Connect form on our website

Some filters require extra attention: If your organization does work in every county in Maine, you will have to include each county separately as a service area in addition to a ‘statewide’ designation, so that users of the directory will see your organization when conducting a county specific search. The same is true for listing each age group separately alongside ‘all ages’, and for listing each season separately alongside ‘year round’.

After submitting a listing, you will be notified when your submission is received, and again when it is approved. Once approved, you can edit your listing at any time.

This directory is a free tool that educators, community members, and the public can use to find partners and programs in their area. We hope this is a service that will also help organizations better connect with members of their community and market their program offerings. If at any time you would like to remove your listing, you are free to do so, and you are definitely not obligated to post a listing for your organization.
